The Beauty of New Beginnings
Whether or not you feel that inspirational and motivational “new year, new me” sense at the turn of the year, where you whole heartedly tackle that new diet, fitness routine, wellness ritual, etc.... don’t let anyone bring you down, not even yourself, by thinking it’s temporary, even though it kinda is! Use it while you can! The truth is, motivation and inspiration expire. It doesn’t last. It comes in bursts and can give you the lovely gift of starting. We use that as a boost to build the actual hard skills to master which are: consistency, self-discipline, self-love, and real commitment and devotion to one’s self.
So use that New Year feeling to your advantage for however long it’s lasts for you. The moment it dwindles, switch your mindset to the real change-makers that require more depth and introspection. By around the third week of January and the start of February, this is where harnessing those motivational feelings and pulling them out of you really come in handy. This is actually a meditation practice. Recall the feelings that are beneficial. Recall that “new year, new me” feeling and turn it to “new month, new me” or “new week, new me” and empower your mind in ways that benefit you long term.
Yoga the way it was originally designed, was long term. You practice regularly like brushing your teeth. Movement and meditaton was part of your daily scheduled routine the way brushing your teeth, eating, sleeping, and showering is part of normal upkeep. Once we start to shift our mindset on our wellness, consistency begins to shine. We will begin to feel and understand what it means to be devoted to ourselves. And that is the beauty of new beginnings. Happy new year Fearchasers and to a beautiful new year of practicing yoga with you!
